Dr. Lon Clarke

Dr. Lon Clarke received his pre-college education in Barbados before studying at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, where he graduated with honors in 1992. He then studied dentistry at the prestigious Fairleigh Dickson School of Dentistry in New Jersey. He graduated from that institution in 1986. After completing his studies in the United States, Dr. Clarke participated in an internship at the University Hospital of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. There he developed his surgical skill before briefly entering private practice in Canada. It wasn’t long, however, until Dr. Clarke decided it was time to return home to Barbados and, in 1998, he did just that. Today, Dr. Clarke is a premier cosmetic dentist operating out of Barbados and offering the latest treatments to patients throughout the Caribbean.

Dr. Clarke is married to Carolyn Tull, a family physician. Together, they have four children. Dr. Clarke is proud to have represented his country in swimming at the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, and the Olympics.

Certifications and Affiliations

Dr. Carol Belgrave

Although Dr. Carol Belgrave has been practicing with Aesthetic Dental of Barbados for the past year, she has been involved with the practice since childhood; first as a patient and then by working with Dr. Clarke and his staff during the holidays. During this time, Dr. Clarke encouraged Dr. Belgrave to follow her dream of becoming a dentist. She is happy that she did and is now able to offer a full range of services — as a general and cosmetic dentist — to individuals from Barbados, Trinidad, and Grenada.

Dr. Belgrave received her bachelor’s degree with honors in biology before graduating from dental school in 2002. During her studies, she worked as a part time lecturer. Dr. Belgrave has also taken part in orthodontic research projects, which resulted in the publication of orthodontic posters and papers. Dr. Belgrave is currently in the process of analyzing orthodontic research data for publication. She is dedicated to public health issues and has volunteered her expertise to help provide the community with dental health information.

Dr. Belgrave is an avid reader. She also enjoys water sports, traveling, and spending time with her four beloved dogs, Mocha, Mozzarella, Ebony, and Pony.

Aesthetic Dental Biographies

Raquel Wilkinson – Senior Dental Assistant

A member of Aesthetic Dental’s staff since 2004, Raquel plays a critical role in the delivery of services to patients.  In addition to being Dr. Clarke’s personal dental assistant, a role that requires sound knowledge of all procedures, attention to detail and quick observation, she also coordinates the entire process of bleaching for patients who undergo that procedure.  What is more, Raquel is responsible for training new members of staff.  Like many of Aesthetic Dental’s staff members, Raquel brings to the practice a history of personal accomplishment.  She is a former Miss Barbados (2003), and represented the island at the Miss World competition in China.

Didi Sawyer – Office Manager

Didi has been Aesthetic Dental’s office manager for the past two years.  In this role she is responsible for a number of key functions through which the practice maintains contact with patients and suppliers.  Didi schedules patients for all four of the practice’s service providers and also manages the accounting and billing processes.  In addition, she handles all contacts and inquiries that come via the internet and manages the practice’s information technology system.  A native of Haiti, Didi was schooled in Barbados and speaks fluent English, French and Creole.  She has lived in Europe and ran her own retail business prior to joining Aesthetic Dental.

Sophie Greenidge – Assistant Office Manager

Sophie’s key responsibility for managing the front desk means that she is frequently the “official” voice and face of Aesthetic Dental.  Sophie’s knowledge of the practice is extensive: she recently rejoined Aesthetic Dental after leaving to pursue other interests, but draws on six years of valuable prior experience.  She is well versed in office management and information technology, and her training in the care and management of children is a valuable asset to the practice.  Sophie is an accomplished dancer.  She has performed throughout the Caribbean and in many other countries as an ambassador for the arts on behalf of the Barbados Tourism Authority.

Merica John - Dental Assistant

My name is Merica John and I am one of Dr. Lon Clarke's dental Assistants. I joined the team in July 2006.

I assist directly when dental treatment may be necessary and I try to make every aspect of this treatment as comfortable as possible. My goal is to put you at ease during your visit, and I am proud to contribute to the exceptional quality of the dental treatment that Dr. Lon Clarke and his associate, Dr. Belgrave, provides.

I am very excited about being in dentistry. I look forward to meeting with patients, going over new dental procedures and technology. In my spare time, my hobbies include shopping, socializing, watching movies and spending quality time with my son, Kamar.

I plan to be part of dentistry for many years to come, definitely to the stage of advancing my career. More than ever, I enjoy assisting in helping patients appreciate the importance of a healthy and beautiful smile!
