Dental Implants

The dental implant procedure involves several office visits, beginning with the placement of an implant into the jawbone. In most cases, this implant is made of titanium. Once implanted, the titanium permanently fuses to the jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. This complete integration into the jawbone allows for the strongest, most permanent, natural-looking and -feeling replacement available today.
After the dental implants are allowed to heal, natural-looking replacement teeth are attached to the implanted titanium studs. These replacement teeth are specially created to cater to each patient’s unique facial features and cosmetic needs.

Invisalign®
Invisalign® is the latest advancement in orthodontics. Using a series of clear aligners that are adjusted during periodic office visits, Invisalign® patients are able to straighten teeth in much the same way as with traditional braces — but without metal brackets and wires. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the lower jaw to the skull and allows the jaw to open and close. Because the TMJ facilitates eating, drinking, and speaking, problems in this area can have a great impact on the quality of a person’s life. Many people who grind their teeth (possibly in their sleep without their knowledge) experience jaw problems that can lead to TMJ disorders. These disorders are frequently accompanied by clicking or popping sounds in the jaw.

Sealants
Sealants, thin coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth, help prevent decay that frequently forms in the intricate pits and grooves of teeth. After sealants are applied, they typically last about ten years.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy involves removing the infected inner tissue of a tooth that would likely otherwise require extraction. Because this area of the tooth, known as the pulp, contains blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues, an infection can cause serious pain and discomfort.
Extractions
When root canal therapy and other restorative procedures are unable to save a damaged or diseased tooth, the tooth may need to be removed, or extracted. Wisdom teeth, the third and final set of molars, frequently requires extraction as well. Dr. Clarke and his staff provide safe extraction procedures with the least amount of discomfort possible.
Scaling and Root Planing
When advanced gum disease requires treatment below the gum line, scaling and root planing allows Dr. Clarke and his staff to remove tartar, calculus, and other forms of decay near the tooth root. This prevents further damage and possible tooth loss.
Flap Surgery
When gums separate from teeth as a result of prolonged gum disease, a pocket is created. Bacteria and other debris can build up in this pocket, causing further deterioration and increasing the risk of tooth loss. Dr. Clarke and his staff at Aesthetic Dental of Barbados utilize this form of dental surgery, known as flap surgery, to help prevent tooth loss that can occur as a result of gum disease. The procedure involves scraping away hard deposits such as tartar or calculus and reshaping damaged bone. The eventual goal is to eliminate the pocket between the teeth and surrounding gum tissue.
